of the Region

The Talbot Provedore and Eatery is located in the picturesque Central Goldfields town of Talbot in Victoria.

We are passionate about supporting local producers and showcasing both their food and wine in the Provedore and on the Eatery menus.

Join us for breakfast, lunch , coffee & cake or our Saturday evening dinners. Drop in to browse the provedore and pick-up a selection of local produce including milk, eggs, cheese, local meats, fresh vegetables, coffee beans, jams, chutneys, crackers, olives, capers, oils, plus regional wine, beer cider and gin from our wine store.

Had a fabulous 5 course meal here on Saturday night. My wife and I drove 65km from near Beaufort where we were staying on a weekend away from Melbourne and I can honestly say we haven't enjoyed a dining-out experience like that since pre-Covid.

Saturday Evening Dinner

On Saturday evening we take our offering up a notch and offer a seasonal chef’s menu of three courses with a selection of dishes for each course. 

Locally roasted Coffee

Rich, dark and creamy coffee made with freshly ground, fair trade Enga Coffee beans which are roasted in Ballarat, and Inglenook Dairy milk from Dunnstown near Ballarat. 

Provedore

We love showcasing our regional food producers!

Discover locally grown olives, oats and french green lentils, freshly roasted coffee beans, jars of jams, chutney and preserved fruits in classic Fowlers Vacola jars. Sauces, pasta, vinegar, black garlic, salts, balsamic and drinking chocolates.  Plus, everyday staples including sourdough bread, cheese, smallgoods and open range eggs. 

Regional Wine Store

Showcasing Wine, beer and cider sourced from regions within 100km from Talbot – admittedly this leaves us pretty spoilt for choice! The Pyrenees is on our doorstep, Macedon Ranges, Heathcote and Bendigo just up the road, Grampians to the west and the unofficial wine region of Ballarat only a stone’s throw away.

FIRST FRIDAY LOCALS NIGHT

On the first Friday of every month we welcome locals, and anyone who wants to be a local for the night for dinner at the Provedore. 

A relaxed and inviting evening of simple fare, great local wine and beer, and easy going good times.

A love of wine, a little bit of research, a good deal of naivety and a hell of a lot of hard work led to the establishment of Amherst Winery when Norman and Elizabeth Jones planted the 2ha “Dunn’s Paddock” Shiraz vineyard in 1989. This was followed by 1.5ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and .5ha of Chardonnay in 1998. Amherst Winery is located 20km southeast of Avoca in Western Victoria’s beautiful Pyrenees Wine Region. The land at Amherst, an old gold field, had been farmed by Norms’ grandparents and great grandparents. When the opportunity arose to purchase some of this land in the 1970s he jumped at the chance of holding on to some of the family’s rural heritage.

The business is now owned and operated by the second generation of vigneron at Amherst, Luke Jones. He carries on the tradition of high quality, small batch winemaking. As a teenager Luke helped plant the vineyards and has been involved in almost every vintage since that time. After 15 years in the wine industry in hospitality, retail and wholesale sales and with a diploma in Wine Science Luke took over the winemaking duties in 2008. Since the first commercial release of Shiraz in 1995, Amherst has gained a reputation for elegant, cool climate, hand crafted wines that have delighted wine lover and critics alike.
